How to find free DJ edits and bootlegs on SoundCloud
Updated 28 October 2026 · 4 minute read
Edits, bootlegs and unofficial remixes are some of the most played tracks in club sets, and most of them can't be sold, because the producer doesn't own the original. That's why they're almost always given away as free downloads, and why SoundCloud is where they live.
Edit, bootleg, remix: what's the difference?
- Edit: a rearranged version of a track: a longer intro, a cleaner mix-in, a punchier drop. Made to be easier to DJ.
- Bootleg: an unofficial remix, often of a pop or classic track, made without the original artist's permission.
- Official remix: commissioned by the artist or label, and usually sold, not free.
Where to find them
- Search titles. Producers label them clearly: try edit "free download", bootleg "free dl", "free download" remix, plus the artist, track or genre you're after.
- Edit-focused producers. Some producers mostly make edits. Find one whose edits you like and check their whole profile.
- DJs' likes. DJs who play edits like a lot of them. Their likes are one of the best sources.
- Playlists. Search playlists for "edits", "bootlegs" or "free edits" plus a genre.
Why edits disappear
Because bootlegs use other artists' music, rights holders sometimes have them taken down. If you find an edit you love, save it while it's offered and follow the producer, so you see their next one.
Before you play them
A free download is the producer's permission to have the file, not a licence to the original song. Bootlegs are usually fine in a club set, but don't release, sell or re-upload them, and be careful using them in mixes you publish, as streaming platforms often detect and block the original song.
Collect them in one go
Paste an edit producer's profile, a DJ's likes or an edits playlist into Cratedigger. It saves the edits offered as downloads, shows Get free download for edits handed out on gate pages, and skips anything that isn't free.
