Where to find free downloads on SoundCloud

Updated 28 October 2026 · 5 minute read

Every scene on SoundCloud has producers who give music away. New artists share tracks to build a following, and established ones drop free edits between releases. The hard part isn't finding free music; it's finding it among the many tracks that aren't free. This is how to dig efficiently, whatever you play.

1. Search the right words

On SoundCloud, switch search results to Tracks and combine your genre with the words producers use:

  • "free download", "free dl" or "FREE DL" plus your genre or style
  • "free download" edit or "free download" remix for DJ-friendly versions
  • "free download" plus an artist or label name you like

Producers almost always put "FREE DOWNLOAD" or "FREE DL" in the title, because it gets clicks. Cratedigger's search does the same search and marks which results are actually free.

2. Find the free-download playlists

Many collectives, small labels and DJs keep running playlists called things like "Free Downloads", "Free DL" or "Free Releases". Search playlists for those words plus your genre. One good playlist can hold hundreds of free tracks, and it keeps growing.

3. Dig through the right people's likes

DJs and curators whose taste you trust like a lot of free tracks. Open their SoundCloud profile, go to Likes, and you'll find music you'd never reach through search. Paste that likes link into Cratedigger to see which ones are free.

4. Follow the producers who give away music

Once a track turns out to be free, check the producer's other uploads. Artists who give away one track usually give away more. An artist's whole profile can be checked at once.

5. Avoid the premiere trap

Tracks titled "PREMIERE | Artist - Title [CAT001]" are promotions for releases on sale. They're almost never free downloads. Premiere channels and label playlists are great for discovering music, but expect to buy those tracks.

Saving a crate in one go

Once you've found a good playlist or profile, paste it into Cratedigger. It checks every track, saves the ones the artist offers as downloads, and shows Get free download for tracks the artist hands out on their own page. Run the same playlist again next month and only new tracks are added.

Support the artists

If a free track ends up in your sets or playlists, follow the producer, repost it, and buy their next release. Free downloads keep coming because listeners give something back.
